PDO Cog Threads

Close-up 4D image of cog threads used for non-surgical facial lifting in aesthetic treatments.

What are PDO cogs and how do they work?

PDO threads consist of polydioxanone, a biocompatible and biodegradable material widely utilised in surgery for its safety and effectiveness. PDO threads come in various types: cog, mono, and screw, each designed for specific cosmetic purposes. Cog threads feature tiny barbs along their length, enabling them to grip onto skin tissue, holding it in a lifted position.

Cog threads offer lifting, rejuvenating, and texture-enhancing benefits, reducing fine lines, wrinkles, and tightening sagging skin, particularly in the face and neck areas.  Over time, the presence of the threads stimulates the body's natural healing response. This leads to new collagen production, which further improves the skin's firmness and elasticity. Initially, 20% of the results are visible immediately, with the effects peaking at 6 months and lasting from 1 to 2 years. With minimal downtime, PDO cog thread treatments offer a safe and effective solution for restoring a more refreshed appearance.

PDO Mono Threads

What are PDO monos and how do they work?

While mono threads and cog threads are both made from the same high-quality polydioxanone material, they offer different benefits in aesthetic procedures. Mono threads, also known as smooth threads, are single strands without barbs. They create a supportive mesh-like scaffolding within the skin which focuses on improving skin texture and reducing mild sagging by stimulating collagen production and providing firmness.

These threads are ideal for achieving overall facial rejuvenation. Both types of threads offer minimal downtime and provide long-lasting results.

What to expect

A  personalised treatment plan will address your concerns and desired outcomes, specifying the areas for cog and mono thread insertion and explaining the expected results.

PDO threads are introduced into the skin using a blunt-tipped needle known as cannula. Positioned within the targeted skin layer, these threads serve as anchors, facilitating upward skin lifting. Subsequently, any surplus threads are trimmed away, completing the procedure.

The treatment is minimally invasive, and the level of discomfort experienced during cog thread insertion can vary from person to person. To minimise discomfort lidocaine is injection into the insertion site.

For mono threads, numbing cream is applied to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.

Treatment time: Approximately 45 - 1.5 hour
